A little slumber...

“…Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead…” (Acts. 20:7-12)

Most of the born again Christians are like Eutychus: such a man thinks, “I am a saved man, baptised by water and Holy Spirit, I have been listening to sermons and reading Bible for years and I know every thing well. Moreover, I have read all the deeper truth books and now I know what to do and what not to”. So he reckons that he can have a little slumber or rest. And hence he continues, “Nothing is going to happen even if I don’t go for a meeting or if I go late or even if I don’t listen to a sermon”. However, Bible says such a person is lukewarm (Rev. 3:16). Nonetheless, he imagines, “anyway God knows me well; I am so pious and have done nothing against Him. Moreover, I have even endured hardships in His name. So he won’t allow devil to crush me”. No, No, No… You are terribly wrong! God says he is going to spit us of out of His mouth since we are neither cold nor hot (Rev. 3:16). And dear child of God, devil is waiting in waylay to take control over you at that same moment and make your come back next to impossible.

Eutychus was sinking into deep sleep. Dear reader, if you loose your interest in spiritual things (sinking in spiritually) make notice that you are going to fall down (spiritual fall down). Even if you are at a higher level of spirituality (third story) you are going to die (Spiritual death). Infact higher the fall, the more certain is death. But don’t worry, as the last part of the verse says, a servant of God’s care (Paul’s arms around him) can bring you back to Christian life. A little slumber made him to fall down. Likewise, our lukewarmness can cause spiritual fall down and ultimately a death. All the hardships you endured for God’s name will be in vain. So it is time to examine your life before God and come back to His flock.

Everything is permissible, but not everything...

Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible, but not everything is constructive… (1 Corinthians 10:23)

Here in this text, St. Paul tries to admonish the believers about their freedom. He ratifies that everything is permissible to a man, but as a believer we should ponder whether what we are going to do is beneficial to us and other believers. Again he asserts that we are permissible to do everything but as a believer we should do things that are serving to improve our spiritual life.

I have heard many believers asking…

•What is wrong in watching a movie/TV or reading a Harry Potter book?

•What is wrong in going for a football match or enjoying at an adventure park or playing a non violent video game?

•What is wrong in hanging out with friends and sharing trivial jokes and engaging in some pranks?

They call it all innocent amusements. Dear children of God, definitely as Paul said, ask your self what is there to edify your soul from all these so called ‘innocuous amenities’? No amusement is sinless… we engage in it because we need it, we involve in it and squander our precious time, we partake in it and waste money which Lord gave us.

When you feel like watching a movie sit in your prayer closet and dream about Lord’s soon coming and you being caught up at rapture and think about what should be done to make that sure. Rather than reading Harry Potter stories, read some biblical story books or glance at biographies of saints which can mould your Christian life. When you feel like going for a football match or enjoy at an adventure park or play a video game, take the challenge to go down on your knees for some time and pray and fill in the Holy Spirit and enjoy the God’s love towards you and praise him. When you feel like hanging out with friends, go and meet your Christian friends or servants of God rather than sharing trivial matters talk about challenges of Christian youth in the modern society or talk about last Sunday’s sermon and thus edify yourself and them.

Be ye therefore perfect, even as your father which is in heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:48) Be ye holy; for I am holy. (1 Peter 1:16)

What to pray? How to pray?

Most of us pray once or twice a day or some people may be more than that. Nonetheless, what do we pray? How do we pray? Is there any significance in that? I have seen many people crying and praying at temples before their gods, at some churches and at shrines of saints. Will all that be counted worthy by our living God? If not, what should we pray then and how? God’s people know that if we waste our tears on material needs and motives we won’t have tears left for our spiritual needs. Here let me share the thoughts which I received from the God while I was asking these questions to Him.
· First and the foremost is to pray whenever we can.

· Secondly, pray everyday that we should be worthy enough to escape the tribulation and stand irreproachably before Son of Man. That is, pray that we should be caught up at the rapture or should die in God and be resurrected at the time of rapture and join Him.

· Thirdly, pray everyday that God should make us wealthy enough to praise and worship him and pray with out fail. Pray that God should not make us very wealthy that we may forget him and not too poor that we start to supplicate for self pity and material needs.

· Last but not least, Pray everyday that God gives us enough wisdom to win more souls for His kingdom. Pray that we won’t be fool and be deceived and loose our salvation and pray that we won’t be too wise to argue with others and loose them from God.

Because of unbelief

“So we see they could not enter in because of unbelief”. (Hebrews. 3:19).

God heard the cry of His people. He promised to deliver them from Pharaoh’s slavery and give them a land that will flow with milk and honey. They have seen and felt, not one sign but ten, that the Lord God Jehovah lives and thus they were delivered as promised and started their journey to the land that is unseen. That day the hands of the Lord broke the chains of slavery. There was no map to guide them through the wilderness. And the Lord went before them as a pillar of cloud to lead the way by day and by night the pillar of fire. Thus Israelites, led by Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, reached at the edge of the Sea of Reeds and camped there.

In spite of His wonders, the children of God suspected His power. When they saw the Pharaoh’s army behind them, their beliefs faded. They thought it was a suicide for them to leave Egypt; either the army or the sea would ravage them. They might have asked, “Wasn’t there enough room in Egypt to bury us? Is that why you brought us out here, to die in the desert?” “Don't be afraid!” replied the Mosses, “Be brave, and you will see the Lord save you today. These Egyptians will never bother you again. The Lord will fight for you, and you won't have to do a thing”. As Moses said, the Lord of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob kept his word: the children of Israel found dry ground, but the Egyptians were stuck in the mud and sea receded and drowned them. There after they went many days through desert without water. Again they started to doubt God but He provided them with water in desert. Not too late they started grumbling about food. God gave them Manna for them not to starve to death. The muttering of Israelites didn’t stop with that, they cried for meat. Yet, despite of the fact that these ungrateful people deserved death, God chose to extend them yet another mercy. God fed them with quail for evening meal. They even made golden oxen to worship. This was how they repaid the God who did all those blessings despite of their faithlessness. God was waiting to see for how long would they disobey Him and how long would they turn their backs against Him. The merciful god pardoned their sins but added that, that generation would not enter the promise land because of their unbelief.

When God is within us we will glow like a star. However, the heathens around us would be in darkness. With out sanctification and separation, their darkness may cover the glory of God in us and create vagueness around us. Then as the children of Israel, we may also be worried about our obscure future. Nonetheless, as a Christian, we should believe that the lord our God who has saved us will fight the battle for us and will guide us through right path and lead us to the eternal life if we believe and surrender to His will. Consequently, if we start to suspect His promises and worry too much about our material gains and future, God may refuse us His eternal glory as he did to the generation of Moses. Therefore, as a child of God we should glow in belief, attract the others to faith and follow His will.

Because of unbelief we may be thrown out of glory.
Its not how we start, it is how well we end our race! Steadfast unto the end (Hebrews. 3:14). So beware dear friends. “But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin”. (Hebrews. 3:13).

“But the fearful, and unbelieving...shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone:which is the second death” (Revelation. 21:8).
